Mountain Biking

Glamping at Lake Powhatan means you’ve got Tent-to-Trail access. The Bent Creek trail system is one of the region’s top spots for mountain bikers of any ability. Round out your glamping experience with some quiet time fishing lakeside. Brown Trout, Brook Trout and Rainbow Trout are all stocked here, so you can expect a catch! Fishing season extends from the first Saturday in April to the last day in February. Since you’re in the national forest, a fishing license is required and very easy to come by. Just visit a local outdoor retailer or click the link below in advance of your glamping trip. There’s a 7-fish limit each day and no size regulations, so set your goals high! Swimming at Lake Powhatan

Everyone loves a day at the lake! Just a short walk from your glampsite, Lake Powhatan is tucked into the surrounding mountains with a beautiful beach perfect for a barefoot stroll—or bring your beach blanket, and watch the kids have a blast swimming. Lifeguards are on duty every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Hiking

Take a short morning stroll, or plan for a day-long excursion. Either way, you couldn’t be closer to a huge selection of hikes. For a quick and easy family trail, try Deerfield Loop or Pine Tree Loop. The Hard Times Loop Trail is a little longer (about 2 to 3 hours) but it’s known for beautiful views and a peek at the Biltmore House from a distance. Longer and more difficult trails can be found on the north side of Bent Creek Gap Road. If you’d rather head off site for the day, the Blue Ridge Parkway is around the corner and offers an endless number of hikes for all abilities. Some favorites are Pisgah Mountain, Graveyard Fields, Black Balsam and Craggy Pinnacle. Find descriptions and directions to all of these at RomanticAsheville.com. And don’t forget that Glamping at Lake Powhatan is next door to the North Carolina Arboretum—hikes here are surrounded by 65 acres of cultivated gardens and seasonal landscape exhibits—so gorgeous!

Downtown Asheville

Glamping at Lake Powhatan is a little oasis in the forest, but it’s close enough to downtown Asheville for anyone who wants to experience the best of both worlds.

Some of the best restaurants and breweries in the country are located just 10 minutes from your glampsite, not to mention the streets lined with art galleries, boutique shopping, and concert venues of all sizes. Asheville is the largest city in Western North Carolina—it has around 89,000 city residents plus 253,000 residents in the surrounding county. Basically, it has a small town mountain vibe but with big-city fun.
